Promise Neighborhoods Program

In 2010, the U.S. Department of Education created a new Promise Neighborhoods Program. This decision was inspired by the successes of the Harlem Children’s Zone and the Promise Neighborhoods Institute based out of PolicyLink. From the start, Promise Neighborhoods were community-based initiatives meant to surround children in high-quality integrated programming designed around a multifaceted approach to healthy childhood development.

Grantees need consistency and flexibility to successfully meet expectations while supporting their own unique communities. The main way to do this is for you (the funder) to establish a handful of similar measures for each comparable set of programs (e.g. all mentoring programs, all workforce training programs, or all after-school programs). You can then aggregate these measures to tell a story of impact.
